A small introduction to the Blog of Your Executive Secretary – Amanda Johnson

I thought a short introduction might be in order before I start rambling – if you haven’t found my About Us page yet, please check it out here.  In the meantime, I am Amanda and the Director of  Your Executive Secretary – my business was created in 2012 on my retirement from the Royal Navy and officially launched on 12 Dec 12.   I am based in Ferndown, Dorset, UK with my husband  (Andrew) and young son (James).  I am sure they will make an appearance in my blog as it develops.

For the past 22 years, I have been in the Royal Navy as a Logistics Officer with roles ranging from PA, Secretary, Executive Assistant, Career Development Consultant, Diversity and Inclusion Advisor, HR Officer and Head of multiple Logistics and HR departments but after a life changing event I made the decision that I wanted a better work / life balance and consequently have left and have established my own business.

I like to think I am a self-motivated, personable and highly organised Senior Executive with a strong background in human resource management, able to confidently engage with people at all levels. I possess the communication, conflict resolution and analytical skills to perform proactively, inspiring enthusiasm and consistently achieve objectives. However, those that know me well describe me as having awesome administration abilities and that when it comes to organisational skills I am hard to beat.  I recently asked some friends to describe me in 3 words on my Facebook page and this is how they described me (without me even paying them….) “Honesty, Consistency, Judgement and Fair”, “Motivated, Dynamic and Good Reasoning Skills” and finally “Thoughtful, Reliable, Efficient and Trustworthy”.  Wow perhaps I ought to pay them!

As a newbie in the VA Industry, I have been struck at how much support there is out there and how much of a collaborative industry it is.  So please join me, as I navigate my way through my business and at the moment, business start-up – I hope the Blog will be informative, fun, provide helpful insights, hints and tips.  If there is something you would like me to write about specifically then please add it to the comments below or drop me an email at [email protected].

Feel free to connect with me either on Facebook or Twitter and I would love for you to let me know your thoughts and join me on the journey.
